John . . .
I don't want to wait until the New Year. It seems
many people put off going for there goals until that magical day,
January 1 of whatever year.
Tara and I have tried many diets. Not so much from
the perspective of losing weight, even though clearly I have some
to lose. But instead from wanting to feel our best.
This isn't our first go at eating just raw foods
- we've had extended periods before. And because we feel so much
better - more physically energized and mentally clear - we really
want to make the transition from eating a partial raw food diet
to making it a way of life.
Making it the way of life - dealing with being social,
going to out to eat and what not - has been the biggest challenge
to date. We realize the need to learn how to deal with those situations.
Over the next 30 days, during perhaps the most challenging
time of year, we're going to challenge ourselves to stick with our
raw food diet and we're going to share the results with you.
The "before" pictures are taken on November
30th, 2005. We've eaten mostly raw over the past six months - from
morning until late afternoon, that is. Our even habit, however,
has been a pizza for dinner and a pint of Ben and Jerry's for desert!
Not occassionally - every night for the past two months. We found
we could cheat a little by eating the cooked food at night - the
physical 'yuk' sensation and the mental 'blah' is easier to live
with when you're asleep.
Of course we wake up feeling crummy, but after a
couple stout cups of coffee and a nice raw breakfast we feel pretty
good again. It's a lot like getting drunk, waking up hung over,
then feeling better after getting rehydrated (and taking a couple
Advil). Not a healthy way to live, at all.
On the coffee note . . . it remains to be seen if
we're going to give that up too. Ideally, yes.
